Model Documentation AutoCAD 2012

Hello Friends,

Hopefully AutoCAD 2013 is about to Launch in a Month of time. Already Excited about the Expectations on Cool New Features.

But today am here today to Share the Power of Model Documentation, which is again a New Feature Unwrapped in 2012 Release & We also discuss about the Enhancements Expected for 2013 in Model Documentation.

Need for Model Documentation in AutoCAD?

Almost Every Platform Based Business Solution Provider Uses AutoCad. AutoCad is inevitable for any Mechanical Industry. Even though they use Inventor, Pro/E, Catia or Solid Works for 3d, when it comes to 2d AutoCad is Monopoly. And most of the Design Engineers feel much Comfortable to do Detailing in Cad compared to other packages.

Looking in Business Perspective R&D Labs will have Certain Seats for Some 3d cad Packages and few for CAM / CAE. But you may find AutoCad in almost all the Machines. So once Part / Assembly Design is over, the Detailing could be done in any of the machine and also by any Designer / Even a Shop Floor Person as AutoCad is buddy for Every Technician.

AutoCad gives us two Options.

Create Drawings from AutoCAD and Inventor 3D Models

Create associative drawings in layouts from AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor 3D models.

Create Drawings from Other 3D CAD Models

Import IGES, CATIA®, Pro/ENGINEER®,STEP, Solid Works®, JT, NX, Parasolid and Rhinoceros®(Rhino) files and generate drawings from them. >>Note: Inventor Model cannot be loaded into AutoCAD 2012 <<

Interoperability of AutoCAD with Inventor has many things to Enhance Productivity

Most of the Companies will have their Template, Text & Dimension Styles more proper in .dwg format by native. When these Templates & Line weight Settings were used in any of the 3D Modeling Software, Sometimes people used to Complaint as they were unable to achieve the Clarity which they get in AutoCad.

And Features like Dimbreak were not possible in Inventor itself, Can be Done Easily with AutoCAD

Inventor Sheet metal Model Can be brought in AutoCAD and we can retrieve Flat Pattern too.

Core Inventor Users will be familiar with Level of Detail (LOD), Positional & Design View Representations.

Especially LOD is more helpful in Handling Large Assemblies.

Picture Shown below is an Example for Varying Combination done using Positional Representation in Inventor Assembly Environment

Exploded Views (ipn Files) Can be Brought in With Trails

Out of these I love Interoperability of Weldments as you Can Get the Weld States!!

Inventor models can show the weldment in different states.

The “Assembly” state displays the weldment in its unwelded state.

The “Welds”state displays the weldment after the pieces have been welded in place.

The “Machining” state shows the weldment after post welding machining operations (if any). Additionally, you can display each individual piece with any weld preparation it may have.

       Refer Below picture,
I have used MultiLeader with Blocks to Show Weld Symbols.
We knew that in Inventor, Assembly Removal Features Common for Welded parts were grouped under machining folder. It is great to retrieve Weld state & Machining State Separately (Hole available in Machining alone – refer image)

What else then - Iparts and Iassembly !!!

Now the News for Model Documentation in AutoCad 2013
In the beginning of this Article I said it is not Possible to Import Inventor files into Model tab.

But in AutoCAD 2013 we Can Import Inventor Files. we Can Create Detail& Sectional Views !!
And Dimensions and Annotations were Associative in Nature !! Let us Welcome AutoCad 2013
